Why comment is never free
I am coming round to the idea that Comment
Is Free is tolerated, neigh encouraged, to allow a lot a very angry
people like us to let off steam safely. In short, it is a substitute for
action.
This amount of anger probably existed before, but I don't think there
is any doubt that it is primed every time Iraq is mentioned.
Personally, I'd like to know where this is leading. On the one hand,
the harbingers of doom posting so frequently here want us to believe the
UK will be living under Sharia law within 50 years. On the other hand,
we find that things which should REALLY worry the government are given
virtually no serious coverage in the press...
Like the explosion on the Rough
offshore gas storage facility in Feb 06 (80% of UK's gas storage capacity
currently up the shoot) which followed on the Buncefield oil depot fire
in Dec 05, which followed on a big bang in Moss Bluff, Texas in August
2004 and an explosion in Ghislengien in Belgium in July 2004.
Unlucky equipment failures? Acts of God? Clandestine energy wars?
No, mostly SILENCE.
